The entire inspection process is recorded onto DVD/USB so you can view any cracked pipes or problem areas.

How Is A CCTV Drain Inspection Carried Out?

The inspection is carried out using a long cable, on the end of which is mounted a video camera. We lift the inspection cover of your drainage pipes, then feed the cable along the length of your pipe. As the cable passes down the pipe, the camera records the condition of the pipe walls. Our cable is marked with measurements along its length, which allows us to work out the location of the footage.

The process is non-invasive and causes minimal disruption.

What Type Of Problems Can A CCTV Inspection Pick Up?

Some drainage problems take years to reach a point where they cause problems. The aim of the CCTV inspection is to spot issues at an early stage before they begin to cause problems. This allows timely remediation work to be carried out. The type of issues that we come across include:

  • Worn pipes, including cracked or chipped pipes, or pipes with a compromised internal layer.
  • Tree roots that have penetrated into the pipe.
  • Subsidence that is putting pressure on a pipe.
  • Evidence of build-up in the pipe.
  • An uneven interior, making it more likely that unwanted build-ups will occur.

When Should I Get A Drain Inspection?

  • If your drains are blocking frequently.
  • If you’re purchasing a property and want to make sure there aren’t any underlying problems with the drains.
  • If you haven’t had your drains inspected in the past five years.
  • If you have any cause to suspect there may be a problem with your drains.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Drain Inspection Shows There's A Problem. What Happens Next?

If the CCTV footage shows a problem, we’ll explain what it shows to you, as well as give our recommendations for suitable remedial work. In most cases, pipes can be fixed quite easily, simply by inserting a new liner. This doesn’t require the pipe to be dug up.

How Can I Reduce The Risk Of Problems Developing In My Drains?

Making sure that nothing unsuitable is flushed down the drain is probably the best way to enhance the lifespan of your drainage pipes. Measures such as installing a grease trap, making sure that drains are appropriately covered, ensuring nothing inappropriate is flushed down the toilet and using a shower plug hair catcher will all help to reduce the risk of blockages and help to prolong the life of your drainage pipes.

How Long Do Drainage Pipes Usually Last?

Older drainage pipes (more than forty or so years old) will most likely be made of clay. A clay pipe is less resistant to wear and tear than modern, PVC (polyvinyl chloride) pipes. PVC pipes will last a century or more!
