Causes Of Blocked Drains

There are a number of different types of blocked drain pipes that you could be experiencing, such as a blocked sewer pipe or a blocked shower drain pipe.

The most common causes of a sewer blockage are tree roots and broken or cracked pipes. Sometimes there are foreign objects which have entered into the pipes which are causing the blockage.

Clearing Blocked Drains

Depending on the cause of your drainage problem will determine how we go about the drain clearing. If your drain is blocked by cooking grease or fats, we can use our water jet machines to clear it. If it’s a tree root problem then we can use our cable machine to cut the tree root and then follow up with the water jet to remove the debris from inside of your pipes.

Once the drain blockage is cleared we will follow up with another drain inspection to identify if further repair is necessary. If the blockage is from a tree root it is extremely likely that the blockage will occur again in the future and the time for this to happen will depend on the type of tree and how effectively the drain is cleared and repaired.

In some cases a pipe can be re-lined which is a common option if it is undesirable to dig up the pipe for a repair. This is normal when there are expensive materials above the pipe or concrete due to the costs of repair.

However, the best solution will be to dig the pipe up and put a new section of pipe in to replace the broken area. By doing this it is also possible to ensure the root cause of the problem is cleared to prevent a blocked drain in the future.
